|Well Centred Next Project|
|My aim was to create a restful place for contemplation and the title 'well centred' reflects on the central role which water in general, and the well in particular, plays in our lives.
Outside of the 'show context' my assumption is that this garden would exist within an internal glazed courtyard of a single story building which would be an office/studio for between 8 to 10 people and thereby access to the garden would be restricted to one or two persons at a time in order to preserve its quality of sanctuary.
Within the 'show context' the well offered a point of focus, and a place with a sense of gathering and belonging, and with this in mind it was open for visitors to leave small tokens of their choice, either to be hung from a tree, or cast into the water.
At Bloom 2016 'Well Centred' had a shallow circular body of water at its centre, and this in turn was encircled, firstly by a grass mound, and secondly by a circular ring of Birch, and outside of that again, a mass planting of ferns. The inner sanctum containing the water could be approached along an elevated boardwalk and a simple seat close to the centre provided a secluded resting place.
