'La vie est belle' was an island installation measuring some 11M X 17.5 M and was divided into three main elements, The Pavilion, The Screened Garden and The Car Podium. Cities have always been places where roof gardens, balconies and courtyards abound and this garden was designed with these spaces in mind. The transcending themes were tranquillity and sanctuary, with the plants carefully chosen to evoke a sense of calmness and relaxation, and by using a pastoral style of planting I attempted to echo the call of country pastures and hedgerows.
From the Pavilion the visitor could view the Screened Garden which contained stone paving along with reflecting ponds, mirrored surfaces and lush pastoral planting.
Although the car was parked outside of the Screened Garden its images could be seen subtly reflected on the many mirrored surfaces within the garden.
