'Footfall' was a conceptual show garden, with 'design' itself as its central theme.
I go along with the idea that for a design to be successful it needs to be functional, practical and beautiful, and it could also be argued that these qualities should exist in near equal measure.
However this is not always the case, and to illustrate this point I designed my garden around 144 pairs of ladies high-heel shoes.
I can accept that high-heels are not the most practical form of footwear, but I would also like to think that their aesthetic quality can more than make up for this deficiency.
In my work as a garden designer I will always strive to design spaces that are I hope rigorously functional and practical, but also, I would equally hope..... beautiful.
